William Kyle, a recent graduate of the Blue Ridge school, was behind the wheel of a Subaru BRZ that crossed the double-yellow centerline and struck a Hyundai Elantra in front of it, on Tuesday, Aug. 8 around 8:40 p.m., Virginia State Police said.

The Hyundai had been turning left into a private driveway on Buffalo Drive, and the impact caused the Subaru to run off the roadway and collide with a tree.

William, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. An 18-year-old female passenger from Kezzletown was taken to Sentara RMH with minor injuries.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 42-year-old male of Rockingham, VA, and a juvenile passenger were uninjured in the crash. Both were wearing seatbelts.

William, who stood 6-foot-10, was being remembered as a curious and deep person, who cherished his siblings dearly. According to his obituary, he was "weeks away" from beginning his studies in Industrial Design at the College of Visual and Performing Arts at James Madison University.

"William was a great listener and observer. He could imitate anyone’s walk and had his family on the floor laughing with his imitations," his obit reads, noting he was drawn to humor and never mean-spirited."

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at JMU Memorial Hall, 395 S. High Street, Harrisonburg, with the Rev. Lauren Eanes and the Rev. Alex Zuber officiating.
